In the beginning, God created man. Or, depending on your theological standpoint, there was an explosion and a lot of stuff was made. Regardless, everything has a start. So once the human race began walking this giant rock we call home, it was inevitable that the need for getting from point A, to point B was born. There were two options for the land going types; the shoelace express, and I’m guessing on the back of an animal of some sort. Sometime however in the 19th century, we got a little crafty. Now I realize there were few mechanical marvels around this time, but this is a blog about cars so I’m just going to skip those.
Now there were a lot of players in this time, but I’m just going to go with what I know, and who holds the patent. So a man by the name of Karl Benz invents the “motorwagen” and thus, the birth of the automobile. This is the beginning of all things cars, trucks, SUV’s, racing, building, modifying, fabricating, exploring, cruising, you name it. This is how we got our start. Whether you view your car as the same status as your refrigerator; appliance, or you view your car as a hobby and a lifestyle, patent number 37435 was our official genesis. Oh, and a lot of stuff happened between then and now. So God creates man, man needs to get from point A to point B, the horse doesn’t cut it, so man invents car. Then wife borrowed car to run some errands. Seriously, it’s kind of a neat story.
All these things have fascinated me since I was just a little whippersnapper. From grade school and little league, to 16 and new driver, I was hooked on cars. I can thank my dad for introducing me to the sickness. Now, as I sit here and write this, so begins my automotive blog. Just like Karl Benz and the motorwagen, here I am. Of a little less significance, I might add. In my adult life, I’ve held a few car related jobs. It’s a hobby, and it’s paid the bills. Here I sit, recently laid off from work thanks to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic, writing the first article I can think of for an idea I’ve had for a few years.
The idea behind this blog was simple; to share my knowledge (or lack thereof) and passion about cars and trucks with everyone who shares the same passion, or sickness depending on how you look at it. To give you a further impression about who I am, I’ll start with what I am, and what I am not. I am not wealthy. I am a millennial (no hate mail please) who made the rash decision of going to college with no clue as to who I was or where I wanted to go in life not once, but twice. Let’s just say the student loan debt struggle is real. I am also not an expert. There are still a lot of things I don’t know. This will be a true learning experience. I am however handy and diligent enough to figure things out on my own. A big shout out to the internet is due. Now with all that, you can put your violins away. The sad but hopeful monologue is out of the way. Anyways, with all that; cars are expensive. Are you seeing the dilemma yet? Broke, but in love with very costly, depreciating assets. Hence, sickness.
One of the main goals of this blog is to share how you can enjoy the wonderful but costly world of cars and maybe have a little fun doing it. I’m going to be realistic though, you’re not going to be buying a Ferrari on a shoestring budget. Sorry for the disappointment. I’m good, but not that good. I was however driving a Mercedes-Benz my sophomore year of college. I also paid for it myself, and kept it running. This is the type of thing I’m hoping to share; the ability to drive and enjoy nice cars on a budget.
Just as the title states, so it begins.
Love this so far!! Keep writing!!
